It's kind of like riding a bike....

In a sense, or maybe just a die hard habit. I probably could have done better but I have been out of the game for a bit. While I was working, I did not have the time, energy or inclination to go shopping at all so we pretty much surfed on what was already in the pantry with weekly as-needed additions of fresh dairy and produce. As you can imagine, we were actually starting to run out of things (gasp!)

I have been more then a bit envious of the deals that Michele and JoDee have been getting at Safeway. They are going to get a big laugh out of how much I spent :)

Ok, 3 stores - wait - no, it was 4. I started out at Winco because I wanted to pick up some more John Morrell Smoked Sausage that Karissa got for $1.18 each. I had like 50 $1.00 MFR coupons (you can find them at Rosauers but they expire 4/30) so I was planning on picking up a dozen or so. Were down to 4 left from the last time I went there and 2 of those will be used on Saturday so...

I get to Winco and they had raised the price up to $1.78 each! Jackasses!!

So I left and went around the corner to Walmart, not a place I shop at much but since it was so close I decided to check the prices there. They had them for $1.50 each. Twice as much as what I wanted to pay but I'm in a spot here, we are going to run out, so I grabbed 10 of them. I got:

10 John Morrell Smoked Sausages @ $1.50 each = $15.00
2 cans of Bush's Grilling Beans @ $1.48 each = $2.96
1 loaf of Artisan French bread, reduced to .59 cents
1 Rianxeira Tuna Snack @ $1.50
Kikoman Soy Sauce @ $1.42

Subtotal = $21.47

Minus:

$1.00 John Morrell MFRs (exp 4/30) x 10 = $10.00
$1.00/2 Bush's Grilling Beans MRF (4/18 SS, exp. 5/16) = $1.00
$1.50 Rianxeira Coupon (try me free MFR from the 2/10 All You) = $1.50

Total Coupons = $12.50

Total OOP at Walmart = $8.97

And I left a bunch of the John Morrell coupons there too, I wont be using all of them....

Next Stop, Rosauers:

1 Sicilia Lime Juice @ $1.09
9 Kool Aid Fun Fizz @ $2.00 each (normally $2.59 each) = $18.00
1 bunch of Green Onions @ .59 cents (normally .79 cents each)
4 bags of No Yolks Noodles @ $1.00 each = $4.00 (normally $1.59 each)

Subtotal = $23.68 (would have been $31.55 at regular price)

Minus:

$1.00 Kool Aid FunFizz MFR (3/28 SS exp. 4/25 but they took them anyway) x 9 = $9.00
.75 cents off any No Yolks PRINTABLE X 4 = $3.00

Total Coupons = $12.00

Total OOP at Rosauers = $11.68. I saved an additional $7.87 by purchasing the Kool-Aid and Noodles on Sale!

Last stop, Fred Meyers

Transaction #1:

4 boxes of Wheaties Fuel @ $2.00 each = $8.00
- $1.00 PRINTABLE MFR'S x 4 = $4.00

I had a .75 cent of e-coupon loaded as well but it didn't come off :(

Transaction # 2:

2 bottles of Mirassou Pinot Noir @ $7.99 each = $15.98
FM usually charges $12.49 per bottle so this is a pretty good deal and it's my mom's favorite. She has been helping me alot around the house and with Colby so I bought them as a Thank You gift for her.
3 - 2 lb. packages of Mahatma Jasmine Rice @ $2.50 each = $7.50
1 bottle of French's Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce @ $1.50
1 bottle of Heinz 57 sauce @ $2.50

1 bottle of Lea and Perrins Steak Sauce @ $3.49
1 box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch @ $4.89
2 boxes of Yo-plus Yogurt, reduced to .99 cents each = $1.98
1 box of Fiber-1 Yogurt @ $1.99
2 Digiorno Pizza and Breadsticks at $6.19 each = $12.38
Tax = $1.39

Subtotal = $56.75

Bag Credit = .15
Free Cinnamon Toast Crunch coupon = $4.89
Free Mahatma Rice Coupons x 3 = $7.50
Fiber-one peelie coupon = .55
$1.00 Yo-plus PRINTABLE MFR (NLA) at .99 cents x 2 = $1.98
$1.00 French's Mustard MFR (4/11 SS, exp. 6/30) = $1.00
$2.00 Lea and Perrins PRINTABLE X 2 = $4.00
$2.00 Heinz 57 sauce PRINTABLE = $2.00 (ty again Frugal Chic)
$3.00 Digiorno PRINTABLE from Facebook x 2 = $6.00
Catalina coupon from previous transaction = $4.00
E-coupon for Fiber-One yogurt from Cellfire = $1.00
E-coupon for Cinnamon Toast Crunch from Cellfire = .55

Total Coupons = $32.07

Total OOP for Fred Meyer = $24.52 - keep in mind that $17.37 of that was for the Wine, so without the Wine it would have been $7.15 :)

Total OOP for all 3 stores = $45.28

But...

If I had not used coupons and purchased things that were on sale the total price tag would have been...$110.82!!

Maybe I didn't do so bad after all ;)~

I present this as an example of how you can save a considerable amount on your grocery bills by purchasing items when they are on sale, combining the sale price with a coupon and stockpiling when the price is right.

Of course, we won't be using 12 containers of Margarine in the next week or so, but I do like to take a container with us when we go camping and in the past have simply ran to the store, paid full price for 1 container ($1.69) just to use it for a few days then throw it away. Since we camp at least 6 times per summer, I would have spent $10.14 for just the Margarine to take with us. I saved $7.14 alone buying it on sale with the coupons, and it freezes really well, so we have a stockpile that will last through this year and quite possibly next year as well.

Favs of the week, 1/27 - 2/2

Wow!

For what ever reason, this has been one busy week for me, or atleast it feels like it. And for feeling so busy, sure seems like I have gotten nothing done!

There are some really great deals going on out there this week! I hope everyone was able to pick up their free Post cereal at Kmart. I got 3 boxes of Raisin Bran. I wanted the Shredded wheat but all they had left by Wednesday was the Raisin Bran. Oh well, it was still free!! Please leave a comment if you find a hot deal or see something I missed.

The Quaker deal at Albertsons right now is hot! Was hot, until that $1.00 Internet Printable snafuu hit, such a bummer! Cap'n Crunch, Life, Oatmeal squares, Breakfast Cookies, Instant Oatmeal, Chewy Bars, dips, Quaker and Aunt Jemima Pancake mix are all $1.00 when you buy in multiples of 5. Here is my plan for getting some more free stuff:

Was my plan, I am going to have to rethink it now :(
10 Boxes of Instant Oatmeal
4 Boxes of Chewy Granola Bars
1 Box of Quaker Oatmeal Pancake Mix

Subtotal = $24.00

- $9.00 Instant savings = ($9.00)
- $1.00 Quaker Instant Oatmeal Printable (Bricks, might have reset?BAD COUPON!) and HERE TY Michelle x 10 = ($10.00)
- $1.00/2 Quaker Chewy Granola Bars x 2 = ($2.00)
- $1.00/1 Quaker Oatmeal Pancake Mix (no longer available) = ($1.00)
- $1.00 Albertsons Doublers (did you hear? TY Karissa!) x 2 = ($2.00)
Subtotal Coupons = $24.00

Total OOP = ZERO!! It would have been Perfect!

Anyway, that was my plan, obviously, I will have to wait until Sunday to do part of it.... Now, it took all 3 of the computers in this house to come up with all the coupons and honestly, that game you have to play to get some of them about made me pull out all my hair!

Many thanks to Michelle over at Happy2bFrugal who did a great job of matching up the best deals for both Albertsons and Safeway this week, I got to find that Safeway coupon book!

Favs of the week, 1/13 - 1/1/19

I have to show off part of my Cream of Mushroom soup score. 24 cans of soup and 2 cans of French's French Fried Onions for FREE! Bonus! I got a $2.00 survey on the bottom of one of the receipts, so it pretty much paid for the 4 cans we paid $2.00 for last Saturday :)

Deal is dead now :( But, you can still get the coupons I used to pull this off HERE and the onion coupon is HERE.

This week, Happy2bfrugal did an awesome job of putting together the best deals at Albertsons and Safeway and she shared this HOT Tuna Coupon too!

Thanks for all your hard work Michele!

If you are planning on shopping Safeway this week, you definitely need to check out this information about their new e-coupon program that Frugal Chic Living has explained really well here. Thank you Crystal!

1/6/10

Favs of the week 1/6 - 1/12

My coupon binder is in a horrible state right now :( I have been lazy, not clipping my coupons or removing the expired ones. Bad Leah! Bad bad Leah!

I just kind of glanced at the sale papers this week - due to the condition of my binder and also trying not to shop as part of our commitment to the Eat from the Pantry Challenge. So far, we are on track and doing well, we spent $15.15 so far this week on our fresh items. Some of those will get us through next week as well, like the 10 lbs. of potatoes and 5 dozen eggs I picked up at Winco on Saturday.

Anyway, here are some things that did catch my eye. If you see something I missed (and I'm sure, that is probably everything this week) or find something hot then please leave a comment and share with us :)

$1.00 John Morrell Sausage Coupons are back

I found the new $1.00 off ANY John Morrell Sausage coupons at Rosauers at the Y this morning! Expires 4/30/10. They were in a little box hanging up in front of the sausage back in the meat department. 12/16/09

Favs of the week, 12/15 - 12/24

This week's sales are 9 day ads, with the exception of Fred Meyer.

The big ticket item this week in grocery are the Rib-eye and Prime Rib roasts, the difference being that the Rib-eye Roast still have the rib bones attatched while the Prime Rib has them removed. We usually purchase the Rib-Eye and, since I'm married to the Butcher anyway, remove the ribs ourselves at home because there is alot of good meat between them and a nice rack of ribs makes a great meal in itself. Most stores will remove the ribs if you ask them too, but have them freezer wrapped and take them with you. Your paying for them anyway so might as well make another meal out of them later :)

Here is what is catching my eye this week, please leave a comment if I missed something or you find something real hot out there this week. And, please be careful while out and about, the roads, parking lots and sidewalks are slick! I slipped on Monday night and I think I broke my butt :( Sure feels like it anyway....

Albertsons -

Rib Roasts, whole in the bag (I have no idea what that means, but it also says they will cut and wrap it for free), $4.99/lb.

Kraft Shredded or Chunk Cheese, $1.49 each

Also, on page 5 of Albertson's ad there is a Manufacturers coupon for $3.00 off any Fresh Whole Turkey, though the pic on it shows Butterball and the retailer redemption address is to Butterball as well. Exp. 1/31/10. Might be able to pick up a cheap Turkey after Christmas?
